Background Checks for Employment or Licensing If you are requesting a background check for employment or licensing within the U.S., you may be required by state statute or federal law to submit your request through your state identification bureau or the requesting federal agency. You should contact the agency requiring the background check or the appropriate state identification bureau (or state police) for the correct procedures to follow for obtaining an FBI fingerprint background check for employment or licensing purposes. Some states (such as California) restrict the use of "record review" reports. If you obtain a record review from California, and you share that information with an employer - YOU are in violation of the California Penal Code. But if you get an FBI Record Review (which would contain any information about California) you may share the FBI Record Review with employers. Due to some states not having ANY statutes regarding fingerprint background checks, many employers are requesting applicants to provide an FBI Record Review as proof of a clear criminal background. Many employers that do not meet state statutes to receive this background check MAY direct their employees to use this service to receive a "personal record review" and provide this report prior to being employed. This report is more accurate than any name-based background checks, since it is based upon fingerprint data which cannot be faked by identity thieves. If you are an employer and livescan is not available in your area, our FBI CardScan Services may be an option for you. We can also scan fingerprint cards for digital upload by certain companies to a SWFT account. For more information on this service, feel free to contact us.
